Monday Night Drop-In

Monday Night Drop-In is a weekly drop-in for youth who are underhoused or experiencing homelessness. The drop-in is part of the CLICK Mentoring Program and it’s where youth and adult mentors come together to share home-cooked meal.

Who: queer and trans spectrum youth under 29 who are experiencing unstable housing.

When: Mondays (including holidays), 5:30 - 8:00pm

What:

  • a fun, queer and trans space for socializing, relaxing and sharing a meal
  • support from both SOY staff and volunteer adult mentors
  • weekly activities such as film screenings, games, workshops, crafts
  • information and resources, such as your legal rights and health information

About the Facilitators

John Caffery is a multidisciplinary artist and community worker who engages art in social change and works on creative responses to oppression. 

At Supporting Our Youth (SOY), John designed the program: H.E.A.T.(Human Rights Equity Access Team) to engage LGBTQ2S youth using arts-based methods to develop skills and opportunities that empower them to be active citizens and advocates for social justice.

John is currently pursuing a Masters in Environmental Studies at York University to explore the intersections of Art & Activism within 2SLGBTQ communities and how to best engage youth in Social Justice.

Premal Laxman is a queer, South Asian social service worker with a passion for community development and creating anti-oppressive and anti-racist spaces for 2-spirit, queer, and trans youth. He has a background in psychology and adult literacy and has been part of the staff at Supporting Our Youth since 2014.
