Becoming a SOY Mentor: Application Process

As you may know, SOY is going through a re-design this year, which includes the Mentoring Program. The following information outlines the process for recruiting mentors for the program over the next 6 months.

Our Mentoring program will be looking for 2 types of mentors:

(1) Drop-in Group Mentors

We currently have 4 groups: The Monday Night Drop In, Alphabet Soup and Express on Tuesdays, Black Queer Youth on Wednesdays, and Trans Fusion Crew on Thursdays.

and

(2) One-on-one Mentors

This Spring we will focus on the needs of Queer/Trans Youth who access our drop in groups and youth who see our Youth Resource Workers. By the end of May we will know specifics about what our youth want from group and one-on-one mentors.

Beginning May 28th, 2018 we will be accepting applications from potential mentors. Applicants who may be a good match for our youth will be invited to 18 hours of training during the month of July. At the end of that training, successful applicants will begin our matching process. Our goal is to have a few mentors matched with groups and individual youth for September 2018.

We will be accepting mentor applications between May 28th until June 8th, 2018.

Please email or call Verlia Stephens in that time period to find out more information, including what our youth are looking for in a mentor:
